Kelty Pack is born: 1952

Dick sells 29 packs in his first year of business for $24 each, after several years of making packs in his home garage for friends. His wife, Nena, sews each of the pack bags, and Dick hand forms and welds each of the frames.

Kelty packs first include nylon back bands, hold open frames, zippered pockets, nylon pack cloth, clevis pin attachment of pack bags, waist belts, padded shoulder straps, and aircraft aluminum contoured frames. Using wool carpeting for padding, the first shoulder straps were produced. From aircraft rivets, the original clevis pins were made.

50th Anniversary Pack: 2002
